NYS Forum IT Greening Work Group
Meeting Minutes

5/21/2009 9:00 a.m.

The IT Greening Committee met at NYSERDA headquarters at 17 Columbia Circle, Albany at 10:00 a.m. June 18, 2009. In attendance were Carter Yepsen, Rebecca Buchner, Brian Duffy, Ken Damato, and...

The committee discussed the relative value of the past year's events vs. the effort and cost associated with each. Consensus was reached that the ½ day seminar on energy basics had a better ROI than the full day 2nd annual IT Greening conference. Some felt that a full day out of the office was difficult for many, particularly managers, to justify. We thought that it would be good to expand the potential audience by using web casting technology. Many thought that the work putting together a quality web-cast event would be similar to putting together a live event (except the work the Forum particularly Rebecca does.) So, the group thought it would be good to focus on a series of ½ day topics that would be held both live and web cast. We could hold these at either the Desmond due to their in-house production capabilities, or at one of the Plaza Meeting Rooms and use an OGS internet connection for broadcast.

The topics for each seminar we discussed included:

  1. Desktop Power Saving Strategies:
Desktop Power Saving Study performed for OFT CNS
    Thin client developments
  2. NYPA offerings and programs
    Connected Real Estate
  3. Case Studies from other States and large Municipalities
  4. Smart Grid
    Technology
    Case Studies
    Smart Metering
  5. Recycling Office Equipment
    e-Waste
    ePEAT
    Resources
Behind the scenes - what really happens
  6. OGS Facility Tour
    AC Plant, Electrical systems, Heating
    Tour ENCON LEED building?

We verified that thank you letters had gone out to Andrew Hoppin and Dr. Leibow.

We discussed that there will be a Forum Annual Planning Session on July 10th. Carter will not be able to attend, but Peter will.

The next Meeting of the IT Greening Workgroup is Thursday, July 23rd at 9:00 a.m. at NYSERDA

The meeting adjourned at 10:20.
