NYS Forum IT Greening Work Group Meeting Minutes

Peter reviewed background of the IT Greening Committee for the new members - NEC.

Reviewed status of the December 10th project. Smart Grid, Understanding the Ramifications of Smart Grid on Information Technology.

Carter will forward the IBM presenter info to NYS Forum. IBM has responded with presenter name and bio for their talk on Green Sigma.

NYSTEC responded to the Call for Presenters. Ken contacted them, and thought they were a good fit to present.

Sue Andrews said that she could reach out to NYISO, if we need it.

Ken received confirmation from Johnson Controls.

Peter will draft the invite, and will try to circulate it by Friday 11/13 COB.

The committee co-chairs will decide Monday 11/16 after the training on Webex if the meeting will be web cast.

Carter reviewed where the Forum is on Web casting in general. Discussed the decision not to web cast the Forum Exec meeting on 11/13.


Next, we discuss Feb 4th, 2010 session. OFT CNS, Brian Duffy, is going to present on the Desktop efficiency project. Gerry Gerard has been asked to present on the OGS printer procurement initiative and its green perspective.

Feb 4th is a new date.

OTA - decreed that all Exec branch agency PCs will implement by 12/1/2009 a hibernation within 30 minutes. Set all computers to go into a sleep/hibernation after 30 minutes. Remove screen savers. Set printers and copiers to go to power save mode after 15 minutes. From Office of Taxpayer Accountability. 10/2/2009 Memo. Savings $25 - 30 per year per device by reducing energy consumption costs, referencing DEC and Exec Chamber

Some discussion of the Memo was had, particularly on the printer requirements.

Feb Session is to be held at the Desmond, Town Hall. Carter sent email to Rebecca confirming the room is reserved.

Call for presenters to go out within a week.


We talked about resource sharing - information on the forum web, or other venues.

Christian G met with OFT regarding this on behalf of the Forum, talked about "the Repository" at OFT. Nora Owens at OFT, is a contact, and will be approached about a collaborative initiative.

Alfresco.com is a site that was recommend as a site to host this potentially.

Brian Duffy will send out a memo reminding members of the IT Greening committee to attend/help out.


Peter will ask Susan Andrews to get a speaker to speak for 20 min or so on the Draft NYS Energy Plan.
