Meeting Notes

  • Welcome - Donna opened the meeting.
  • Follow-up on last months Action Items
    • Update on conversation with Greg regarding holding a Brown Bag event for BAs
    • Update from James regarding his conversation with IIBA. They are interested in supporting the COP in anyway possible. They are open to having non-IIBA attend their sessions at a nominal fee of $10.00/event. James will contact Dave to get listing of upcoming events that we can post on our Web site.
  • BA Brownbag - from discussions with Greg, he suggested holding a Brown Bag event in early June at the Rockefeller Institute to the 44 folks who voiced an interest in a CoP for BAs. At this event we would launch our CoP Starter Kit and provide them with a structure to determine if they are in fact interested in creating a CoP. We would also ask in the invitation email for folks to self nominate for leadership of this CoP and explain what 'leadership' actually means in the context of various types or models of CoP.
  • ITSD Survey - we discussed the need to contact our listserv to poll what types of programs they would like to see in the coming calendar year. We discussed how we would use this information to help inform our participation at the upcoming Strategic Planning Session for the NYS Forum (July).
  • Community of Practice Starter kit.
    • Doug led the discussion regarding what materials are on the Google Group site and how we need to refocus (energize) our work regarding the CoP Starter kit.
    • We need to define what CoP means to us.
    • Determine what we want to see contained in our starter kit
    • Mario raised the Skills soft training currently available in the state. Donna will take the action item to connect with Terri Daly to find out how folks can take advantage of this.
    • Some of the items we discussed as being part of the starter kit were:
      • Definition
      • Check lists
      • Criteria - types of people and range of skills
      • Framework description of what a CoP might be
      • Templates and resources
      • How to measure success
      • Process map.
    • It was decided that we would use the BAs as a straw-man for the pilot of the Starter kit
  • Action Items
    • Doug and Mario will summarize the thoughts raised at this meeting regarding the CoP Starter Kit.
    • James will reach out again to IIBA to get a list of upcoming events.
    • James and Donna will work on the initial planning of a June Brown Bag for BAs
    • Everyone will send Donna in the next two weeks 3 - 5 questions we want to ask in the ITSD survey.
    • Everyone will send Donna in the next two weeks 2 - 3 questions we want to pose to CIO Council Leadership.
    • Adam will reach out to the CIO Council Work Group for Workforce Development to see if we can have a meeting regarding how we can align our work with theirs.
    • Donna will post the skills Development Categories Adam and Deb created on the Google groups so all will have access to it.
    • Belinda and Sam will create a list of BA topics that might help seed the CoP Starter Kit.
    • Donna will reach out to Teri Daly to about access to the skills soft training
