Meeting Notes

  • Donna opened the meeting with a review of the agenda and her conversations with David Gardem (CIO Workforce Development Action Team)
  • Donna also updated folks on upcoming meeting with Terri Daly and Christine Thayer - Oct 16th at OFT offices
  • WG then discussed objective and purpose of the work group and it was determined that the focus of this work group would be on creating a framework for IT Management for NYS IT professionals. We would address this goal by holding 2 events each year that focused on IT Management issues.
  • We edited our purpose statement to reflect this change. This new purpose statement will need to be posted on the Web and communicated to the listserv once it is vetted with the Executive Committee
    • Our Objective - To provide a fundamental framework on IT Management for NYS IT Professionals that allows them to build their capabilities so that they may take on more advanced roles and tasks in their workplace.
  • The WG decided to pick up the momentum created by the last MATRIX session for BA professionals held in spring of 2009 by holding a follow-up event in the late Nov. early Dec 2009 time frame. Mario and James will be crafting a description of this event and reaching out to the PM Workgroup and the International Institute of Business Analysis to gauge their interest.
  • We then discussed the importance of changing our branding. We decided to change our name from MATRIX, which does not seem to resonate with the IT community to IT Management Development Work Group. It was felt by the group that this new name reflected more of charter and the purpose of what the WG hopes to accomplish and the void it hopes to fill.
  • We will present this name change to the Executive Committee for considerations along with the 2009 -2010 plans.

Action Items

  • Donna will type and disseminate the notes for the group to approve
  • Donna will revise the mission statement and goals based on this meetings outcomes and vet with the group prior to dissemination to the Exec. Committee and posting on the Web.
  • Donna will work with Rebecca and Mike to ensure the work group listserv is updated, Web page is updated, and monthly meeting schedule is posted.
  • Donna will work with Mike to investigate a way to create a means for interested parties to provide event suggestions for upcoming events.
  • Mario will reach out to Connie Benton and Barbara Ash to discuss the possibility of a session in Dec focused on the evolution of Business Analysts, Program Managers and Technologist.
  • Mario and James will draft an event description.
  • James will reach out to Chip Foster of the PM WG to discuss the possibility of a joint session similar to the May 2009 event for the Dec. event.
  • Aniko will provide the team with further ideas for IT management issues based on the private sector work her team has been doing.
  • Donna and James will be attending the Friday Oct 9th Exec. Committee session at the Forum.
  • Donna and James will be meeting with Terri Daly and Christine Thayer on Oct 16th.
