Introduction to Web Accessibility

Session Overview

New York State has an IT Policy as well as a Mandatory Technology Standard requiring that State agency web sites be accessible to individuals with disabilities using assistive technology. This seminar will demystify what "web accessibility" is and why it is so important, and will introduce techniques for improving the accessibility of your web site. We will also demonstrate The Forum's validation tool to help test your site's accessibility.

This program would be suitable for web developers and web content developers, in addition to non-technical project managers responsible for web content.

Background in Policy and Law - Why accessibility is so important

Eating the Elephant - Tackle the simple fixes first

Making Images and Other Visual Elements Accessible

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - Separating presentation and content

Tables and Forms

Testing Your Content for Accessibility
