Business Continuity Planning Health Check
Introduction
The NYS Forum's Business Continuity Health Check is intended to provide a general indication of organizational status relative to Emergency Planning, Business Continuity and IT Disaster Recovery planning. The Business Continuity Health Check will yield a high level profile of specific strengths and weaknesses evident in an agency's business continuity planning. It is not intended, nor does it replace, the comprehensive and deliberate efforts that must be undertaken by organizations to ensure their readiness to continue or restore operations in the event of a disaster or severe outage.
Therefore, The NYS Forum does not warrant or imply that the Business Continuity Health Check is a precise indicator of an agency's readiness in any or all aspects of IT business continuity planning.
Confidentiality
Information specific to organizations that is submitted in response to the Business Continuity Health Check will not be stored or used for any purpose beyond the active online session engaged by a user.
It is likely that, within an organization, multiple people from multiple divisions or bureaus share responsibility for emergency response, business continuity and disaster recovery. For this reason, it may be helpful to engage each of those individuals when answering the Health Check questions. In addition, it is suggested that your completed answers be printed and become the focus of internal strategic discussions to generate support for improving your organization's Emergency Management Program.
The information entered by a specific agency will not be savable and thus will not be retained by The NYS Forum or be accessible to anyone including the respondent. The Forum's goal is to enhance leadership awareness of critical needs on a statewide basis.
Ownership
The Business Continuity Health Check is an online application sponsored and owned by The NYS Forum in an effort to provide New York state and local government organizations with the ability to quickly gauge the adequacy of their Emergency Preparedness, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program.
Beyond the initial use in New York State, The NYS Forum intends that the Business Continuity Health Check also be made available on a national basis to government and corporate organizations desiring to conduct a first level check of their business continuity readiness. The NYS Forum does not warrant or imply that the Business Continuity Health Check is a comprehensive indicator of agency readiness to continue or restore operations in the event of a disaster or severe outage.
The NYS Forum would like to especially acknowledge the leadership role of the following Business Continuity Committee members, without whom, the Business Continuity Health Check would not have been possible. Tom Luther, Keith Farrell and Charles Erickson of the NYS Office of the State Comptroller, Chris Lloyd from Keane and Michael LaFrancis from Gartner Research and Advisory Services, all provided valuable guidance and support by reviewing and updating the content and logic of the application.
